Cook County sheriff’s police Officer Robert Vaughan was supposed to be taking down a major drug shipment when he stopped a car last November while on duty and confiscated two duffel bags stuffed with 70 pounds of marijuana.

However, instead of doing his job, he and his partner in crime planned to rob the drug dealers and resale it for $300,000 profit — all of this was admitted in court on Wednesday.

In pleading guilty to one count of interference with commerce through threats or violence, Vaughan, 44, admitted he and two other officers successfully completed an additional eight robberies of drug dealers from 2011 to 2013, splitting profits of $300,000 among them.

You’ve got to wonder, how much of this is going on across our nation?

Dirty cops involving themselves in the stupid endless war on drugs and committing crimes at the same time.

They should never be allowed to work as a public servant ever again.

U.S. District Judge Samuel Der-Yeghiayan asked Vaughan some questions about his crimes during court.

“So you used your police authority to stop the car and rob the person?” the judge asked about the November heist, which turned out to be an undercover ruse concocted by the FBI.

“Yes, sir,” Vaughan said softly.

Vaughan, of Frankfort, faces up to about eight years in prison under federal sentencing guidelines.

His former partner, Stanley Kogut, also a Cook County sheriff’s police officer, hanged himself with a bed sheet at the Metropolitan Correctional Center shortly after their arrest, authorities said.

At least Vaughan is not a coward like Kogut and is man enough to face his wrongdoings.

Most likely because Vaughan wore a badge at one point he will get a slap on the hand and never do any time in jail.

Sadly, if this were a black person with no badge they would be looking at 20-30 years.

Don’t say it’s not true because the facts tell otherwise.

The facts of the ‘War on Drugs’ speak for themselves.

Blacks are approx 12% of the United States’ population and are approx 15% of the nation’s drug users.

Yet blacks account for about 35% of all drug-related arrests, 62% all drug-related convictions and 76% of all drug-related incarcerations.

Hopefully, Vaughan will spend a lengthy time in prison where he belongs.
