Craven County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Arrested on Assault Charge

A Craven County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant has been arrested in Carteret County and charged with assault.

According to the arrest report, David Paul Craft, 40, was arrested early Sunday morning at 7th and Arendell streets in Morehead City and booked into the Carteret County jail on charges of assault.

Craft is charged with assaulting a woman at Jack’s Waterfront Bar in Morehead City. According to the report, he grabbed the victim by the hair and yanked her to the ground.

Craft is being held at the Carteret County Detention Center and is scheduled to make a court appearance Jan. 10.

The Craven County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Craft is a lieutenant in its patrol division.

Craven County Sheriff Jerry Monette said the Sheriff’s Office is conducting an “internal investigation” of the incident and would not comment further.
