DA Seeks to File More Sexual Abuse Charges Against Cop Charged With Child Molestation

Correctional Officer Cory Jordan Fisher Sr.

The district attorney is seeking to file more sexual-abuse charges and name three new victims in the case against former Correctional Officer Cory Jordan Fisher Sr.

Today Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads told Judge John Feeney she wants to file an amended complaint against Fisher, already accused of molesting three boys. The amended complaint would list three “James Doe” victims in addition to the three “John Does” in the original complaint.

Outside the courtroom, Eads said the new accusations include felony forced oral copulation and misdemeanor sexual battery against one boy, other counts of misdemeanor sexual battery involving two more boys, and one count of unauthorized invasion of privacy (being a Peeping Tom) that does not list a specific victim.

Eads said the crimes occurred in June, July and August of 2017. Fisher, 30, resigned in August from his 11-year position as a local correctional officer and moved to San Bernardino. Eureka police arrested him there Sept. 15 after investigating claims of long-term sexual and physical abuse of children.

Today Deputy Public Defender Brie Bennett told Feeney that her office, after reviewing new information from the prosecution, must declare a conflict in Fisher’s case. The judge appointed the county Conflict Counsel’s Office to take over the defense. Deputy Conflict Counsel Meagan O’Connell said she couldn’t respond to the prosecution’s proposed motion to amend the complaint, considering she hasn’t even seen the original.

At O’Connell’s request, Feeney continued Fisher’s preliminary hearing from tomorrow to Feb. 13. A Jan. 17 hearing has been set to hear a motion to impose a gag order in the case. O’Connell said she should know by then whether she will object to the motion to add new charges.

Fisher could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted of all charges, including the special allegation of recurring sexual abuse of a child. He is being held on $3 million bail and is segregated from the jail’s general population.

Fisher’s estranged wife, who has attended most of his court hearings, was not in the courtroom audience this morning.
