A Youngstown Police Officer has been arrested on 10 criminal charges after a secret indictment was issued against him on May 25.
Arthur Carter, who has been on paid administrative leave since October, faces five counts of sexual battery and five counts of unlawful conduct with a minor.
21 News broke the story about the Youngstown patrolman back on Oct. 27 after learning that the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was looking in to an allegation of “past” sexual misconduct.
Carter, who was also an assistant girls track coach at Ursuline High School, was also placed on administrative leave there at the time.
Ursuline issued a statement to 21 News back in October that said:
“An allegation of ‘past’ sexual misconduct has been reported and brought to our attention. The safety and protection of our students is our top priority and we take this matter seriously and the appropriate authorities were immediately informed and an investigation is taking place.”
BCI at the time said its Crimes Against Children Unit was requested to look into the allegation of misconduct made to the school regarding an employee and a student.
In a pro-active move by Ursuline High School, officials issued a text alert to students and parents to make them aware of the investigation.
The school made it clear that this involved a former student and that the incident did not happen recently.
Youngstown Police Department did not return a call for comment .
