SAN ANTONIO – A sheriff’s deputy was arrested Saturday afternoon after assaulting a family member, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said.

Michael Pena, 31, faces a misdemeanor charge of family violence, according to preliminary details of his arrest.

The San Antonio Police Department responded to the call about 1:30 p.m. in the 6200 block of Broad Meadow.

A woman inside the home said Pena “hit her multiple times in the head while she got into the fetal position” after she refused to hand over her phone and a truck key, according to Pena’s arrest report.

Pena’s charges are pending, and the Sheriff’s Office said it is fully cooperating with the SAPD and the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.

Pena will be placed on administrative leave, the Sheriff’s Office said.
