INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. The son of an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officer killed in a murder-suicide has filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Indianapolis, IMPD, and Chief Rick Hite.
Officer Kim Carmack was buried in the Heroes of Public Safety section of Crown Hill Cemetery, nearly a week after she was killed by her ex-husband, a fellow IMPD officer, in an April murder-suicide. Police said she was shot multiple times by IMPD Sgt. Ryan Anders, before he turned the gun on himself.
Carmack’s son, Dustin, claims the department didn’t do enough to protect his mother. He says his mom took out a protective order against Anders, but Anders continued to stalk her.
Dustin also claims that Chief Hite refused to fire Anders, leaving him with police resources to track Carmack. He also claims Chief Hite ordered both officers to surrender their weapons, leaving his mother defenseless on the night she was killed.
The suit also accuses the City of Indianapolis of negligence.
