GREENWOOD LAKE – A former NYPD lieutenant was sentenced to 18 years in prison Friday after admitting to raping two underage, female relatives for years.
The sentence was part of a plea deal for Nicholas McAteer, 46, that was reached with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. The deal spared his victims from having to testify in exchange for McAteer’s guilty plea to two counts of first-degree rape.
The Greenwood Lake man was facing 81 felony counts. He admitted to forcibly molesting and tormenting the teens, who are now adults.
“The allegations were atrocious in nature,” said Orange County District Attorney Dave Hoovler. “These young ladies lived in fear for a lot of years… they were afraid that the defendant was coming after them. I am completely satisfied with 18 years.”
McAteer apologized to his victims in court. However, the judge was unfazed by that apology and called him an “evil, arrogant monster” before sentencing him to prison.
McAteer will also be subject to post-release supervision as part of his sentence, and will be required to register as a sex offender.
