BELOIT, Wisconsin – A former Beloit Police Department officer and security guard with the Beloit School District was arrested over the weekend, accused for the sexual assault of a child.
Larry Woods, 62, of Beloit, was arrested Saturday. Information on the assault had been brought forward by the child’s mother.
“The allegations against a former officer are abhorrent and tarnish the badge that so many men and women are proud to wear,” said Police Chief David B. Zibolski. “Woods’ actions with this child betray the community that he swore to protect. We appreciate the community’s support as we further investigate Woods’ actions.”
Woods retired as a patrol officer from the Beloit Police Department in 2007. He has since been working as a security guard with the School District of Beloit and Beloit Public Library. He has been placed on administrative leave from the library.
Woods will be arraigned on Tuesday. Chief Zibolski will hold a news conference on Tuesday as well to further address the allegations and arrest.
