Indianapolis Police Officer Injured When Gun Accidentally Fires During Fellow Officer’s Funeral

Indianapolis police say a gunshot that injured an officer near the end of a police funeral at Bankers Life Fieldhouse appears to have been accidentally discharged from another officer’s holstered weapon.

Sgt. Kendale Adams said Sunday a female Marion County sheriff’s deputy was hit in the leg and has been released from a hospital. Her name isn’t being released.

Adams says a preliminary investigation indicates the shot came from an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer’s gun that never left its holster and “may have been some type of equipment malfunction.” He says it’s being treated as an accident.

It occurred while hundreds of police officers attended Saturday’s funeral for Southport police Lt. Aaron Allan. He was fatally shot July 27 by a motorist he tried to help after a crash.

Filming Cops was started in 2010 as a conglomerative blogging service documenting police abuse. The aim isn’t to demonize the natural concept of security provision as such, but to highlight specific cases of State-monopolized police brutality that are otherwise ignored by traditional media outlets.
