A Cleveland County deputy has been fired after allegedly pointing a rifle at his neighbor.

Mark Davis faces assault charges after the incident Saturday night in his neighborhood on West Zion Church Road in Shelby.

Investigators said that Davis was off-duty and had been drinking when he heard gunfire or fireworks coming from his neighbor’s property.

They said Davis, 47, was dressed in overalls had no visible law enforcement identification on him, according to investigators. He approached his neighbor, identified himself as a deputy, and then grabbed the man and pulled him towards the barrel of his rifle.

Davis bonded out of jail with orders not to go to his neighbor’s property or threaten or harass any of his other neighbors.

“Concurrent criminal and administrative investigations were conducted by several teams of sheriff’s investigators,” Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman said. “The investigation revealed that this incident was part of an ongoing dispute between the two parties.”

Davis was terminated immediately following the outcome of the investigation, Norman said.

Filming Cops was started in 2010 as a conglomerative blogging service documenting police abuse. The aim isn’t to demonize the natural concept of security provision as such, but to highlight specific cases of State-monopolized police brutality that are otherwise ignored by traditional media outlets.
