She committed no crime whatsoever. But that didn’t stop police from breaking into her home while she was naked, assaulting and arresting her.
The woman was handcuffed while she was naked. A Chandler police officer entered her home illegally and assaulted her, but now she is planning to file a lawsuit against the officer and possibly the department and city.
“I felt helpless. I felt violated. And honestly, I felt molested,” Esmeralda Rossi said, recalling the incident to local reporters.
The Chandler Police tell us they have launched an internal investigation.
But since that investigation was launched, one of the officers involved took an early retirement so that he will be able to keep his lucrative police pension.
Rossi says the incident began when police arrived at her home following a call about an argument.
That argument, allegedly between her and her estranged husband, was long resolved, and had been completely non-physical.
“I was in the shower,” Rossi recalled. “My daughter came to the shower and said there are two officers at the door. So I just grabbed a towel.”
By the time she got to the door, two officers were there. One of them, Officer Doug Rose “became very aggressive,” according to local ABC 15. Rossi “told him to wait at the door so she could go get a cell phone.”
“It made me very uncomfortable,” Rossi continued. “So I closed the door. I turn to go into my living room, and I probably get about five steps in; and all of a sudden, I just hear boots running in after me, telling me stop or I’ll arrest you.”
That’s when Rossi and her daughter started filming the police. But this infuriated the criminal-cops who thought they were above the law.
“This was not the proper treatment of a citizen,” Marc Victor, Rossi’s attorney said to local reporters. “This was disgusting. This was barbaric.”
Police records claim that investigators justified the incident. They claimed that “Rossi was trying to agitate Rose.”
But Victor explained, “any one of us would be upset if a police officer barged into our homes without permission. She had a right to be upset.”
Rossi never ended up being charged with a crime, even though she was assaulted and arrested.
Chandler Police internal investigators actually did determine, however, that Officer Rose illegally entered the home, without probable cause.
ABC 15 notes that “the investigation also determined that Rose didn’t document arresting or un-arresting the woman or the fact that she was naked.”
