BRONX, New York – The relationship between the New York State Police and New York Police Department is not going to mend anytime soon.

Trooper Dana Narvaez, 42, was arrested near his Bronx home when cops from the 45th precinct found him passed out behind the wheel of his car that was idling. Narvaez was arrested for DUI and given a Breathalyzer that indicated he was double the legal limit.

A judge ordered Narvaez released when he appeared for his arraignment hearing.

Once news of Narvaez’s arrest was publicly available, officers at the 45 say they started receiving phone calls from people claiming to be Troopers seeking retaliation. “It’s on,” said one caller.

NYPD union leaders informed their membership of the threats and have encouraged them all to be extra cautious in obeying traffic laws, especially in Westchester or upstate New York.

“We just wanted the members to be careful on the road and obey the speed limit because they’re looking,” said one union head, who wished not to be named. “We’ve been down this road before.”

New York State Police spokesman Beau Duffy said Narvaez was suspended without pay. Rumors of retaliation are “pure nonsense.”

“That will not happen,” he said.” The State Police have an outstanding relationship with the NYPD.”
