New Orleans, LA – On September 23, 2014, Officer Saulny was caught in a situation that involved a 16-year-old female. According to police, while Saulny was being processed, he told his supervisor that he had to use force when processing the girl. The supervisor obtained video surveillance of the altercation and notified the Public Integrity Bureau Force Investigation Team (FIT) to investigate further.
The next day the PIB FIT launched the investigation and reviewed the surveillance video. As a result, they immediately put Saulny on an emergency suspension without pay for the rest of the investigation.
The PIB decided that the surveillance video clearly showed Saulny using excessive force as well as vulgarity.
NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison commented saying, “There is no place in the department for officers who choose to mistreat members of the public and lie about their behavior, based on the results of the PIB investigation, we made the decision to dismiss the officer immediately.”
The IPM monitored the investigation and the disciplinary hearing and is in support of the final decision.
Saulny is a 25-year veteran of the NOPD. He was most recently assigned to the NOPD Juvenile Bureau
