Milwaukee Police Officer Sentenced to Four Years in Prison For Causing Mental Harm to a Child

A former Milwaukee police officer who was convicted of two counts of causing mental harm to a child has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Sonthana M. Rajaphoumi, 46, who was initially charged with soliciting a child for prostitution and two counts of child enticement, received consecutive sentences of two years confinement and two years of extended supervision, according to state court records.
According to a criminal complaint, Rajaphoumi texted and made a sexually suggestive comment to a 15-year-old girl and implied sexual solicitation to 16-year-old girl, both of whom he met while on duty.
When he was hired in 2000, the Fire and Police Commission allowed Rajaphoumi to continue the application process after a police department committee did not recommend him for hiring because of a background investigation.
