Lea County Deputy Charged With Sexually Assaulting Female Inmate

LEA COUNTY — A deputy with the Lea County Sheriff’s Office has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a female inmate.
Edmund Wallace, 31, is charged and arrested for Criminal Sexual Penetration, a 2nd Degree Felony.
According to the Hobbs Police Department, their office received a call from the Lea County Detention Center on Wednesday regarding a female inmate reporting a sexual assault.
The inmate told authorities that she had been sexually assaulted by a deputy, identified as Wallace, as she was being transported from Hobbs to the county jail in Lovington.
Wallace reportedly drove the inmate to an unknown location where sexual acts were performed, according to the release.
HPD then conducted an investigation on the report and interviewed the victim and Wallace. According to police, Wallace admitted to the charge.
Wallace was then placed under arrest and was booked at the Hobbs City Jail before being transported to the Eddy County Detention Center in Carlsbad.
