At Least 1,000 Officers Lost Badges for Child Rape, Forced Sodomy, and Other Sex Crimes
A shocking investigation by Associated Press has revealed that at least 1000 police officers lost their badges and the past six years due to sexual misconduct; this includes a raft of delinquencies including – but not limited to – sodomy, possession of child porn and having consensual but prohibited on-duty intercourse.
As the country focuses on use of unnecessary force by members of law enforcement, sexual deviance has managed to dodge public attention thanks to a mélange of various laws, fragmented reporting and the victims’ own apprehension to come forward.
Their susceptibility is heartbreaking – these are people struggling with addiction, financially distraught, young or cursed with their own not-so-great past.
This highlights the fact that the thousand odd cops, who lost their license, do not represent an accurate enough picture of the members of law enforcement who have engaged in sexual assault.
There are those were never reported and those who were reported but never convicted.
The inquiry also exposes the fact that sex-related grievances are the third most commonly raised complaints by civilians against police officers.
Each case in the investigation is more disturbing than the last.
In an appalling eye-opener some lawyers and even senior officials from the police said there are department that is to remain silent about such issues so as to avoid accountability.
There are cops were allowed to resign quietly while keeping their certification.
Then, sexual deviants simply jump to other jobs.
Chief Bernadette DiPino of the Sarasota Police Department in Florida says these sex crimes are grossly underreported.
“It's happening probably in every law enforcement agency across the country,” she commented.
In one instance, after one woman reported sexual misconduct against Officer Daniel Holtzclaw, investigation revealed that at least 13 other women say had also claimed to have been victimized by the police officer.
The 28-year-old cop who was a former college football standout pleaded not guilty and his family still maintains that he is innocent.
