Domestic Violence Call Lands Bellevue Detective & Sarpy County Prosecutor in Jail

SAPRY COUNTY, Neb. – A Bellevue Police detective and a Sarpy County prosecutor were arrested Tuesday on charges of 3rd degree domestic assault and child neglect – both misdemeanor charges.

Online court records show Harold and and his wife, Jennifer Hessig were booked in jail just after 2 a.m. Harold is a detective with the Bellevue Police Department. Sarpy County Attorney Lee Polikov confirms Jennifer is a Sarpy County Prosecutor in the county’s felony division. Jennifer has been placed paid administrative leave.

Polikov says neither Harold nor Jennifer was injured in the fight. He told WOWT 6 News their children were not involved; neglect charges are standard when fighting in front of children.

Both were booked in Douglas County Jail and have since been released. Bellevue Police officials say Detective Hessig has been placed on administrative leave pending the internal investigation.

Polikov said he will ask a judge on Thursday to appoint a name an outside prosecutor to the case to avoid any conflict of interest.

Filming Cops was started in 2010 as a conglomerative blogging service documenting police abuse. The aim isn’t to demonize the natural concept of security provision as such, but to highlight specific cases of State-monopolized police brutality that are otherwise ignored by traditional media outlets.
