Michigan Sheriff’s Deputy Faces Multiple Charges in Killing Outside of Bar

MECOSTA COUNTY, MI – A former sheriff’s deputy is facing multiple charges in the shooting death of another man outside of a bar in Morley.

Randall Robert Jensen 48, of Stanwood is held without bond after his arraignment in Mecosta County District Court on Monday, Oct. 22, on charges of open murder, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and three counts of felony firearms.

He was a Mecosta County sheriff’s deputy from September 1994 to January 1997, Sheriff Todd Purcell said.

He allegedly shot and killed John Mast, 47, of Stanwood, outside of Moe-Z-Inn in Morley Village late Saturday, Oct. 20. Police said that the two men were inside the bar when Jensen showed a handgun and pushed Mast out through the front door.

The shooting happened across the parking lot. Mast was shot multiple times, police said.

The bartender told police she believed she served the suspect six drinks before the shooting, Purcell said.

The two men were acquainted but not friends, police said.

Police arrested Jensen on Sunday at his parents’ home. Police found a gun.
