NYPD Cadet Busted For DUI After Driving The Wrong Way Down Bronx Street, Hitting Ambulance

An NYPD cadet crashed into a ambulance Sunday after taking a drunken, wrong-way drive in the Bronx, then tried to flee the scene, cops said.

Olano Gayle, 21, was giving his friends a ride in a 2006 Audi when he drove the wrong way down the Grand Concourse in the South Bronx about 2:30 a.m.

Gayle crashed into an ambulance near E. 156th St., kept going — still headed the wrong way — and was pulled over by cops.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

His status with the cadet program wasn’t immediately known, but the arrest doesn’t bode well for his future with the NYPD, a cop source said.

In a separate incident, off-duty NYPD Sgt. William Shaleesh was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing into a parked car on E. 34th St. near Avenue U in Marine Park, Brooklyn just after 2 a.m. Sunday, police said.

He’s been suspended without pay.

Filming Cops was started in 2010 as a conglomerative blogging service documenting police abuse. The aim isn’t to demonize the natural concept of security provision as such, but to highlight specific cases of State-monopolized police brutality that are otherwise ignored by traditional media outlets.
